Since being abducted from Earth, Meg had been through the wringer. She’d been kidnapped by a radical group of aliens set on finding reproductively compatible females, locked in an underground bunker, rescued from said bunker by non-radical aliens, and shown a whole new world that clashed with most of the beliefs she’d grown up with…and she’d never been happier in her entire life.

“She’s the other half of my soul! Formal introductions are trivial.” Rita chuckled. “I would have thought you’d be eager to know the other half of your soul.”
“I couldn’t help it. He insulted you.” “So you crushed his windpipe?” She wheezed out a laugh. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him shrug. “I would’ve preferred to tear it out, but I assumed you’d be unhappy about that.”
“What are you going to do? Throat-punch every guy who’s a dick to me?” “I’m not unreasonable, female.” His eyes narrowed at her and a stubborn frown darkened his features. “Please, let me know where you’d like me to punch him instead, and I’ll be sure to aim there next time.”
“What are you going to do? Stalk me around the world?” “Yes,” he answered simply.
A live feed lit up in front of him. If Maxu had ever smiled harder in his life, he couldn’t recall when. There was Meg, battling fruitlessly against his restraints.
The muscles in his right arm were screaming, but he refused to lower his hand. It was blocking a small portion of the sun, and he’d sooner face the Goddess’s wrath than allow the offending rays of the morning to wake his female before she was ready.
“It’s only fair I make up for all my greediness by devoting my life to you. You don’t just make me happy, Meg, you make me alive.”
