I’ll see to it that Soren fulfills his fate and then tortures you endlessly, exactly as you deserve, because you're nothing but a filthy, warmongering, lower-fae cretin.”
9/16/24 It’s like NO ONE has the common sense to realize that she fled long ago and was not a part of that war. Soren, of all people should, as she put up the wall and stop communicating then she arrives back by boat.
My fate says that I'm here to save the kingdom from the war and that my marriage to the Savage Prince will set off a chain of events to end the bloodshed, but I know far more about the Fates than I did when I fled the Southern Lands. I understand that it's not as simple as merely waiting for the Fates to use me like a puppet. No matter how much I want to sit back in this cell and retreat from the evils of this world, I must participate.
9/16/24 So what was the whole point of the rambling on about just staying there, ignoring everything etc that I just had to read through if you KNOW you can’t just sit there? Lordt!
Now that I've seen the dire state of the kingdom, I know I have much harder work to do than only that.
9/16/24 Yet you keep closing your mind off to him, when able to speak, you chose sarcasm and to sneer, you don’t try to figure out if you got him wrong through the rumors even after seeing you got so many other things wrong through the rumors. You know he and the regent don’t get along and that the regent is sitting on a throne that does not belong to him and that it belongs to YOUR mate, but you don’t think you should figure out what’s going on between them? After all, it’s also your position at stake.
He’s not here at his superior's command, and it makes me wonder exactly how the Savage Prince runs this castle of his. The Sol King would burn this male alive, publicly and with no remorse.
9/16/24 Yet you call Soren the Savage Prince and think him to be evil as the rumors say… Girl needs to get herself together.
“Haven’t you ever wanted to get back at them for what they've done to us? To destroy the witches as they’ve destroyed so many of us? I’ll admit, the moment I heard from the other guards what she looked like, I wanted nothing more than to see tears running down that filthy face.”
9/16/24 And how is what you plan on doing “getting back at them” for what they did to y’all? Sounds like you want to r* her! Also, why would you think that’s it’s cool to harm a prisoner that the prince himself brought back and has not tortured or harmed in anyway? It’s like you want to die.
She hasn’t tried to fight back, though, clearly outmatched, and I doubt that she was much more than a foot soldier or a sentry, nothing worth concerning myself with when the lives of my people hang in the balance.
9/16/24 See, you were doing good until you went there , trying to downgrade and downplay her status, again…
Tauron comes to stand next to me and shakes his head at us both. “Do we want to convince them? What we should really be doing is convincing the Fates that this is a terrible fucking idea.”
9/16/24 Maybe Tauron is working for the regent. He is the most against her being his mate, well, other than Soren himself, but he KNOWS he has to marry her.
Back in the forest, before my family was murdered, I trained from a very young age in the delicate art of midwifery.
9/16/24 We just gone weave her midwife training into the part about her introduction to the Unseelie court and pretend like her even thinking about that right now even fits… but, we do need it for later in the story.
The rumors my brother heard of Prince Soren while searching for information about Kharl and the war had indicated that the moniker the Savage Prince came from his fighting prowess, that he’d become unbeatable on the battlefield and that his swordsmanship was unlike any other in the Southern Lands. In the Northern Lands, this was seen as a very promising sign of the ruler to come.
9/16/24 Oh NOW you’re putting a positive spin on the title you were using in such a negative way… 🙄🙄
I should care more about this, and yet the same hollow feeling that got me onto the ship to return here still has my body in its grips. I have no sympathy for any of these people. Nothing for the rulers who destroyed the land I once called home, land that still cries out from underneath my feet.
9/16/24 Blah blah blah… for someone who doesn’t care, you sure have spent the majority of this chapter doing otherwise…
Royal unions are traditionally held on the winter solstice—only exceptional circumstances have allowed another date to be chosen, and my uncle wouldn’t allow a majority vote to pass within the court to move mine.
9/16/24 And here we insert the conditions that will prolong the union so that we can read the same things over and over again about their feelings of hatred for each other, to cover their lusting, and more of them assuming so much wrong crap about each other…
I’ve been nothing but polite and genial to the lot of you, and yet that courtesy has been returned with threats of violence and deprivation. It’s my own fault. I shouldn't have expected better of the Unseelie high fae.”
9/16/24 In hindsight, maybe you should have opened the channel to Soren when you first decided you were coming back to get a bead of him temperament… better yet, you should have told him when you reached the Northern lands that that’s where you were, even if it was to say you were never coming back…
Two hundred years I spent in the Seelie Court, fighting against the Fates themselves to prove to myself that I didn't have to surrender to their whims.
9/16/24 I don’t know who keeps writing this part but it makes no sense because the whole reason there was even a Seelie War was because the King defied fate. But you’re saying she fought in the war to prove that she didn’t have to accept her fate…
Tauron and Tyton are still sharing guard shifts over the witch, in case my uncle has left a spy here to kill her.
9/17/24 Isn’t that really a waste of time considering what she did to Merrill and Lysen single handedly? He really is full of himself… Also, didn’t he just say he warned Tauron to keep Tyton away from the which yet those are the two doing the shifts? Makes no sense.
“Are you trying to poison me, witch?” His voice is scathing. “Are you trying to use your magic against me now that you have shown yourself to be nothing more than a docile little lamb caught in a deadly trap? I won't fall for it.”
9/16/24 Okay idiot. How hard is it to verify with someone that the tea and its ingredients are safe? Nothing about that sounds like poison. This group of males are highly immature.
“I suppose you spent a lot of time in the Sol Army giving out tinctures for headaches, did you? I'm sure that helped greatly against the Ureen.”
9/17/24 Dude, stop being petty and childish and just ask her what you want to know instead of trying to wheedle information out of her. You already know she’ll tell you things…
The sound of his voice was bad enough but now that my gaze has strayed from the burning azure depths, I’m stuck basking in all of his glory. How has the shine of the Unseelie high fae dulled for me in every last one of them except him? Why does my reaction to him only grow stronger, even as my fury becomes an untamable beast?
