I had a deep fondness for the late Steve Prefontaine, the long-distance runner who competed in the 1972 Olympics. I had several books about him, and I think some of that might’ve had a bit to do with my mom. She had been a walk-on for the Iowa State gymnastics team, and she was very consistent.
