Climbing this would be easy. I did shit like this all the time. Not usually with a raging forest fire at my back, but hey, I loved new experiences. The fire whispered behind me, the voice promising death. It would burn me to ash, reduce me to nothing. Wipe me from the face of the earth.
if i thought gavin had a death wish in the other books it’s nothing compared to what he got going on now 😭
I thought about mentioning that I’d seen her at the coffee shop yesterday, but I had a feeling I’d accidentally say something weird. Like how I’d touched her hand and it had felt like my entire life had flashed before my eyes. A life with her.
Gavin. I haven’t seen him since he was little.” Skylar closed her eyes for a second and let out a long breath. “What are you doing? Rearranging the kitchen?” “That’s exactly what I’m doing.” “Does Dad know?” Caroline drew her eyebrows in. “No. Why?” “Because it’s his house,” Skylar said with a soft laugh.
I turned the idea over in my mind. The killers in my books were always men, and the husband could be the primary suspect. But what if the twist was that the wife was the murderer? Would he be covering for her? Or would she have him fooled, too? “But what’s her motive?” I asked out loud.
it is so embarrassing when characters do this like can all authors exclusively agree to stop making their characters cringe
“If you had listened to me, we wouldn’t have had to hide. This never would have happened.” “Why, because you think I’m fucking in love with you?” The show beeped out her curse word. Everyone in the room gasped. “You don’t get it, do you?” Pepper asked. “This book wasn’t a lie, and I’m not leaving him for you.”
“You can, Otter. Because your spirit knew them, and your spirit remembers. Even when our minds don’t hold onto our memories, our spirits do.” She pointed to my chest. “In there. That’s where they still live. They’re a part of you, and they always will be. You weren’t old enough to keep the memories they left you, but they made you out of themselves. Out of their love.”
Gavin, you have the spirit of water in you. Relentlessly flowing from the mountain to the sea. You were a surprise, but you were also inevitable. There was nothing that was going to stop your spirit from entering this world.”
But don’t you doubt for one second that they wanted you. You fit into their family—into our family—like you were always meant to be. Because you were. They loved you with everything they had, and they wouldn’t have given you up for anything.”
This was right. Every single bit of it. I felt it, deep in my soul.
