“It’s okay to miss her, Bear.”
The problem was, Grace had lodged herself into my heart a long time ago, and she hadn’t left room for anyone else to get in.
Two, I didn’t just have a thing for Grace. I was in love with her. Crazy fucking in love with her.
Grace didn’t know it yet, but she was mine. Long before the end of summer, she’d know. And she’d know I was hers, too.
“If I fall, you better catch me.” He smiled again and held his arms out. “You know I will, Gracie Bear.”
“Grace, I’m in love with you.”
I need you to know. I love you.
He was everything. He was home.
I was going to marry Asher Bailey someday.
I launched myself at him, throwing my arms around his neck. He picked me up off my feet and squeezed me tight. “That was amazing,” I said in his ear. “You were so incredible.” “Thanks, baby,” he said, still breathing hard. “Thanks for being here.”
“I’ll always be here for you,” I said. “Always.”
“Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I’ve never been able to separate sex and love. And you’re the only woman I’ve ever loved.” Her eyes held mine and her smile lit up her face. “I haven’t either.” “Really?” “No. I’ve never wanted to with anyone else.” “Oh my god, I love you so much.”
She was my first love, even though I’d taken too long to tell her. And she was going to be my only love. I knew that now more than ever. Grace was it for me.
“Grace, you’re my best friend and the love of my life. You’re it for me. I want to spend the rest of our lives making you happy. Will you marry me?” Trembling and nodding, with tears running down my cheeks, I gave him the only answer I ever could. “Yes.”
No matter what happened, no matter how bad things got, Asher was mine. And I would always belong to him.
