It should be obvious that an internalized sense of duty is good for us and others. Should a father decline to minister to his family because he has no motivation but a sense of duty? What about a preacher on Sunday morning who doesn’t feel like preaching? What if you wake up on Sunday and feel compelled to sleep in and miss church? You ought to do all things to God’s glory, but our sense of duty is what makes society function and creates the conditions for good outward action and internal piety.
