And when I took her hand in mine, the piece of me I’d been missing for years quietly snapped into place.
“You have consumed me for months,” Leo breathed against my neck, maneuvering my head so he could kiss along the column of my throat before working his way back to my mouth. “Por años.” A bruising kiss punctuated that anguished confession before he pressed his forehead to mine, our breaths hot and frantic between us. “I couldn’t sleep one more night without making you mine.”
And I kissed the back of her neck knowing I was ruined for anyone else.
“See?! I haven’t read more than a page since I finished that Elsie Silver cowboy romance two weeks ago.” She pouted. “I’m ruined.”
“You know how they say you have to wait for the one?” Julep asked, looping us all together again. “Maybe it’s like that for us. We had to wait for the right girls to be our besties.”
“Aw, G, don’t cry.” “No, I’m not,” she said, leaning back and wiping her nose. “It’s the book funk.” I blinked. “Your book funk is making your nose run?” “It’s like having the flu!” she defended. “My body doesn’t know how to function without at least two fictional stories playing out in my brain at all times.”
“I don’t think my story will be as light as yours.” “So, let me sit in the darkness with you.”
She had my number on her chest. And my heart in her hands.
It was a kiss I felt all the way down to my toes. It stirred my desire as much as it soothed my aching heart. It was the feeling of coming home after a long trip. It was Christmas morning and a sunset on the beach. It was a night spent between the sheets and a day of perfect sunshine. It was Leo, and it was me. It was us.
