“No, Talwyn. I have never once been happy to not be on the same side as you.”
“I swear to you that I will come back to you,” he replied, holding her stare. “Nothing there will keep me from returning to your side.”
what will you do when you are king, Callan? Will you wait for someone else to fix things for you?”
“I have learned many things in my many years, young prince, but something I learned early on is that my feet decide which path I take. No one else’s.”
Hang on, Seastar. Hang on just a little longer. Promise me you will hang on.”
She kept her eyes on him, to remind him he was not alone. She became his final star in the darkness.
“If you want to set the entire godsdamn world on fire, my flames are yours to help you do so.”
The softness in Juliette’s eyes shifted to wickedness as Death Incarnate stared down the Fire Prince.
“When night and darkness meet, when dreams and stars collide, when ashes meld with shadows, you will find me waiting, and the first words from my lips will be my name.”
“You made a choice, young queen. Now you lift your chin and handle the consequences, whatever they may be. You do not look back, only forward.”
the moment I touch you, I will lose that control.”
“Then lose control, Sorin!”
“I do not want a life without you in it. If the choice is a life without you or death at your side, I choose death, Scarlett. I choose wherever you are. If that means we are ashes in the voids between stars, then that is what I choose because I am with you. I am giving you my life.
You are still mine. I will still sit with you in the dark, and together we will find the stars.”
“Maybe I will be an actual goddess by this time next year.”
“What shall I do with you tonight, my Love?”
“Say my name like that all you like, Love, but do not let go,”
she couldn’t breathe at all as that pleasure washed over her. Devoured her. There wasn’t room for anything but this. For them. For what they were.
“The thing is, Scarlett, even if you wanted to be alone, that is no longer an option because I will always come for you, always find you, and always remind you who you do belong to.”
“You are mine,” he confirmed. “So if anyone gets to consume you, Scarlett, it will be me. And if that is my curse, I will cross the Veil the luckiest son of a bitch to have ever walked this world, and then I will hunt you down in the After to consume you all over again.”
“Maybe the darkness needs to accept the fact that the stars do not want to go anywhere. And maybe the darkness needs to tell the demons that haunt it that the stars have already staked their claim and there is nothing left for them to have.”
“You were always the angel. She was just the shadows you traveled in.”
The shadows helped me, too, but that didn’t make her no angel.”
“You are anything but an afterthought, Tava,”
“Because a young queen reminded me that hope is for the dreamers, and while I will not ask for your forgiveness or apologize for my choices, I do dream of knowing my son.”
if you are ever taken from me again, I cannot promise I will not burn everything and everyone to the ground until I find you. It will not matter if they are enemy or innocent, friend or family. It will not matter if the entire world is nothing but ash by the time I get to you. None of it will matter because my need for you is all-consuming.”
“When night and darkness meet, when dreams and stars collide, when ashes meld with shadows, you will find me waiting.”
“I see you, Tava. I just…want you to know that I see you. You are not in my background. You are not a spirit that blends in. I see you. I apologize that it took this long to do so.”
He didn’t bother to tell her that she already had the upper hand in every way. He didn’t bother to tell her that all she had to do was say the word, and he’d be on his knees before her. He didn’t bother to tell her that she already held all the power. That he would crawl through every darkness, every flame, and every shadow to worship her in every way possible.
“You cannot kill him. He cannot die,”
“Then he can live on as ashes beneath my feet.”
“My name on your lips will forever be my weakness, Love,”
