Maureen falls, hospital gown floating behind her. The fabric grazes Thalia’s fingers. She’s going to miss it. There’s not enough to grab on to. Then, her fingers find a tear in the fabric, and she latches on and draws her arm in at the same time. She’s got her. Somehow, she has her mother, and though she’s stopped Maureen from plunging down the side of the cliff to the ocean below, her mother’s body still hits the cliffside with a horrible thud.
