Once Meredith was his wife, he’d make certain every man in the room knew she belonged to him.

“Oh, I’ll go.” He backed away, grinning ear to ear. “I’ll go. But I’ll be back. With flowers.”
“Rhys.” Her voice tweaked. “I’ve never …” “Hush. Neither have I.” The words sent huffs of delicious warmth rushing over her skin. “So neither of us will know if I’m doing it wrong.”
“I’m out of practice, I suppose.” “With gratitude?” He cleared the emotion from his throat. “With gifts.” “Hm.” She gave him a meaningful look. Taking his arm, she said, “If it helps at all, it was mostly for me. I discovered this morning how much I love watching you shave.”
But could she truly consent to marry him, knowing that he viewed their marriage as a sort of penance for sins that weren’t even his own?

worthless. It was the result of his being loved. Meredith thought saving his life was worth every sacrifice, and if he wanted to be with her, he would have to somehow find the courage within himself to agree.
