“No! You shouldn’t be able to escape that. Not unless you are one of the—” Zekiel stopped, his eyes wide and fearful. “It can’t be. Samkiel must know.”
I didn’t remember how long we talked, but somewhere amidst her laughter and smiles, I decided I would rip the world apart for her.
“Do you knock?” Drake asked, dropping his hand. “Not when she sounds distressed.” Liam’s voice thundered behind me, the lights in my room flickering ominously.
When I’d seen her distress and his hand on her, I’d known I would make his death slow and painful.
“The prophecy remains. One falls, one rises, and the end begins. It was foretold and will remain. One carved from darkness, one carved from light. The world will shudder.”
“This is how the world ends.” That’s what Roccurrem had said. “There will be a shuddering crack, an echo of what is lost and what cannot be healed. Then, Samkiel, you will know this is how the world ends.” But it was not this world. No, it was mine. It was Dianna.
