“Hey, look at me.” When she did, I continued, “I don’t regret it, you know? Not a second of it. I would give my life a thousand times over for you.” “You shouldn’t have to.” Her lip quivered, and I realized this had been bothering her since I’d arrived.
“What?” I said. “I did what you said. I fought back, and now I have a way for this to all be over. You will finally have a semi-normal life.” She reached out, lightly squeezing my arms. “Oh, D, trading one powerful man for another isn’t a way out.”
“You already consume my every waking thought. Must you consume my dreams as well?”

to make her fall if you have no intention of catching her.”
