“How many did you bet on, dear sister?” Briar asks. “I’ll win your coin back.” “Enough. Briar, do not encourage—” “Well, Skeven said at the last summer party you fucked all of Lord Eldren’s daughters by sundown. Fourteen in four hours is quite a feat even for you, so with that in mind, I said you were good for at least twenty-seven—”
Honestly these to characters had such fun interactions. Too bad he isn’t talked about or seen again once the book hits the 40% mark.
“It’s not that. I don’t eat meat.”
“Most light elves don’t since they can turn into various animals. We prefer a diet of fruits and vegetables, it’s in our nature to want to preserve life in all of its forms.”
Literally the main thing I hate about this book is the random lore/world building elements that are just thrown in at random. Why is this established half way into the book?
“She needs Lysan sun.” “Why?” I had asked. “Because she is sick, Your Majesty. The sun is different there. I read about it in one of my texts. Without getting exposed to it she’ll keep getting worse. The free magic has strengthened her magic but our cold sun is making her body weaken.”
AGAIN?? Yes let’s bring in conflict by bringing up something that has not been mentioned before. CONFLICT
“It is the truth. And I’ll prove it to you.” Reaching inside the satchel, my fingers catch on soft blonde hair. Lifting it high above my head for all to see, the crowd gasps at Ryvik’s severed head that dangles from my hand. “I killed him for his treachery. Paying the ultimate sacrifice of taking a life to prove that he was lying.”
