No he didn't. Grief did not give him the right to hurt her the way he did. Yes he was hurting but he does need to ask for forgiveness and mean and make the nevessary changes that goes into meaning it.

“It was my pride that wouldn’t let you back in.”

I don't think it was all her pride. In the begining he showed no change. He apologised but was still closed off which is what started everything. Forgiveness does not mean letting someone back in your life if they are going to continue doing the same thing. He did not demonstrate change in the begining of the book or even the middle so I think Marin was right to hold out even if he was saying he wanted a real relationship he wasn't demonstrating this
