I couldn’t think of one thing that made me happy, outside of books, that didn’t stem from my relationship with others. And really, if I was being wholeheartedly honest with myself, books had been my escape from reality.
“Good girls don’t ask questions, they listen,” he chided me. “But I did. Now do me a favor and make that your last question. Am I clear?”
“Talk to me like you’re my good girl.” The house HAD to be on fire. “Yes.” Intentional pause just to get him to keep looking at me like he was gonna teach me a lesson. “Sir.”
“Look at me,” he commanded, and my head whipped in his direction so fast, I was ready to sue for whiplash. Just as our eyes met, I felt it. The pressure. “Relax,” he coached me.
“Tell me you’re sorry.” “I’m so sorry,” I whimpered. “What are you sorry for, baby?” I squeezed my eyes shut because I couldn’t look at him. “For asking questions.” “Now tell me what you want.”
I used the color red to mark all the spicy and super hot chemistry scenes.
The orange color was vibrant. When I annotated something this color, it could mean a spectrum of things — tension, OMG moments, shocking moments, or turning points.
