I can’t let the darkness win. I need to fight to survive.

“You didn’t save me, Hero. You failed me,” she whispers. And then he pumps a bullet into her head.
I need to break the spell she holds over me. Somehow.
My survival mode kicked in, and the rest of it was a blur. And then Hero showed up.
Fool. You’re asking for the moon, with no means to lasso it. Just fucking move on before you get yourself any deeper into this world.
“He’ll pay for touching you, Dani. I’ll make damn sure of it.” He pokes his head out in the hall and yells for Slider. A few seconds later, Slider’s head pops through the door frame, taking in the scene, a knowing smile on his face. Fucking men.
I know as soon as I step foot into the room, it will go one of two ways. She’ll hurl something at my head, or I’ll climb in bed next to her. Each possibility comes with its own set of consequences.
It makes no sense. He’s spent all this time avoiding me, only to bring me closer.
“You can’t have me. Not really.”
I need to drown Hero out tonight and let loose. Without him here, I don’t have to be on guard.
Dani is coming home with me tonight or not at all. I can’t stand having her within arm’s reach and not being able to feel her body writhing and moaning beneath me. That little stunt she pulled last night with her ‘thanks for the orgasm, but I’d rather not fuck you’ bullshit has had my blood pumping all day.
I focus on Hero’s face in my mind. I focus on the good times we had together as the knife plunges towards me. I pray that death comes quickly, squeezing my eyes closed as I wait.
Blackness takes hold, and I hear a man screaming my name. Hero’s voice echoes through my mind. He’s here. He came back for me.
“We’d have found you, Dani. Do not think for one second we wouldn’t have torn this state apart to find you.”
We just have to pick up the pieces and glue them back in a way that makes us happy again. We’ll get there. It may not be today, but it sure as fuck won’t last forever.”
