In a state of low energy availability, there is so much going on below the surface that nobody can see: bones are losing density, muscle tissue isn’t healing as quickly, the reproductive axis is being suppressed, metabolism is slowing. . . . I thought I’d pulled back in time, but it wasn’t that simple. That last national title would come at a cost, but nobody knew it yet.
