He had quite a pleasant voice, clear and melodic with tones that could pick up a jaunty tune and encourage dancing and laughter, or deepen and lower for more poignant ballads, which could occasionally reduce even grown men to tears.
It feels bad that the narrator (the author) is telling us how to feel about character traits.
