Some people say that the opposite of love is fear. But the truth was, without fear, there can’t be love. If you can’t worry about losing something you find precious, it probably isn’t all that valuable to you in the first place.

And when you care about people, doing things for them was an honor.

There wasn’t one thing in any life that defined a single person. We were all a mixture of a lot of different things.

“Remember what I told you about choices,” Grandmother said. “Life is full of them, but there are some that matter more than others.”

“But so we’re clear, you being upset about something is important to me,” he told me. “Just as important as saving people from a nuclear meltdown.”
