Donovan jogged off into the street leaving Eva to enjoy the view of his well-toned ass in his uniform pants.
it was her natural sense of adventure that got her into trouble.
A trio of brothers so attractive that a magazine had once tried to offer them all modeling contracts.
carried a gun for a living—which was seriously hot—and
Eva wanted a man like Donovan Cardona to take one look at her and fall madly, hopelessly in lust with her. And then rip her clothes off and take her to bed for two weeks straight.
The good sheriff clearly knew nothing about women. The order to sit made standing a much more appealing position.
Donovan shook his head. “Man, I don’t know what it is. It was just like ‘there you are.’ Like I was waiting for her or something.”
She was a walking, falling down disaster.
A man cocky enough to think he could realign planets? Eva liked that.
we in the police department ask that you refrain from making any important decisions until November. 1. Beginning or ending a relationship.
There was an energy beneath her exterior that buzzed just loud enough to alert him to the fact that she was walking, talking trouble. And that made her beautiful.
Keep it casual, he reminded himself. Don’t mention marriage and white picket fences. Don’t do it.
He wasn’t sure how she’d react to the blunt honest answer. That he wanted to take her to bed and then learn everything there was to know about her before potentially marching her down the aisle.
They made marriage look not just easy but fun.
No, Eva didn’t need another protector. She needed a man who would forget to be careful with her. One who made her feel lusted after, loved, craved, adored.
Maybe that’s why romance novels had appealed to her. That heat, that knowing, when heart and body recognizes what they’ve been waiting for.
Eva squealed in giddy, feminine delight. The popular boy liked her. Maybe.
She was a good cook. Really good. But accidents did have a tendency to happen.
“I love that kid so much I want to hug him until his head pops off,” Eva sighed. “Is that murder?”
You asked me out because you’re going crazy,”
“I want to be upfront with you. No surprises, no secrets. I want you Eva. And I think you might be it for me.”
“Romance is kind of my guilty pleasure,” Joey admitted. “Keeps me and Jax pretty creative in the sack if you know what I mean.”
Gia couldn’t find her damn car keys if they were braided into her hair, and you can’t be bothered to pay enough attention to not walk into cabinet doors.”
She could try to hide from him, but he’d figure out her secrets, and he’d fix whatever was scaring her.
Even his apologies were perfect. Was there nothing about this man that was human and flawed?
Then when these little hellions went to bed, Mama curled up on the couch to read one more chapter. Next thing I know it’s four a.m.,
“Did you mean it?” she asked, raising up to look at him. “Every word, every time,” he vowed. “And before you ask me how I can be so sure, ask yourself if you’ve ever felt this way with any man before. You were meant for me. So, you might as well start getting used to it.”
“Eva, I need to know that you’re at least partially awake and hearing me.” “Mmm-kay, Sheriff Sexy. I’m probably going to go through all your stuff while you’re gone.”
“He means every damn word,” she whispered to herself. Donovan Cardona loved her.
Where she’d spent her entire life trying to prove herself worthy of love, he’d simply loved. More than that, he trusted his heart without questioning whether or not it was right. And just like that, the broken pieces of a little girl’s heart knit together a little tighter.
“How many kids do you think we’ll have?” he asked, twirling a blade of grass between his fingers. “Donovan! You are ridiculous. I’m still waiting on our first date.”
Eva grabbed Joey in a hard hug. “You, my friend, are a mom.” Joey shook her head slowly. “I know. I can’t fucking believe it. And my daughter is in there getting ready for her first big thing, and I’m so nervous for her I might puke.”
Jax blinked at his daughter and then turned his rage on Joey. “You see this? This is your fault! She sounds just like you!”
“Joey’s mean.”
“Heat of the moment,” she argued. “You can’t take conversation during sex seriously.” Donovan buried his nose in her hair. “You can with me. I love you. We’re getting married. And you’re so fucking hot.”
“You’ll take care of her? Make her feel better?” “I will,” Donovan vowed. “But first I gotta yell at her a little bit for not telling us about all this.”
I really need to yell at her because she scared the hell out of me.”
She gripped his wrist in both hands. “Wait. Do you still feel… do you think you still love me?” He faced her, looked her square in the eyes. “Until the day I die, Evangelina. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be hurt and disappointed.”
Donovan’s fist caught him just under the eye, snapping his friend’s head back. “Fuck!” Beckett grimaced. “I knew it was going to hurt. But Jesus, do you have steel hands?” “Don’t ever talk to Eva that way again,” Donovan said, shaking his hand out.
you were just doing your best even though your best sucked.”
“You’re glowing, and you’re drinking ice water instead of day drinking with the rest of us,” Eva pointed out.
“I love you, Eva. Don’t think that just because I’m supremely pissed at you that I don’t mean that anymore.”
“Now, back to you punching Beckett. You hit him because he yelled at your woman?” Eva guessed. “He kicked you when you were down.
you’re important to me, Eva. And I’m not going to let anyone, even one of my lifelong best friends, kick you when you’re down.”
He plunged into her, using shallow thrusts of his tongue to make her say his name over and over again. Then, when he felt her coiling around him, he sheathed two fingers into her and brushed his lips and tongue over that tight bundle of nerves.
he hinged forward to grip her chin. He wanted Eva to watch him take her. Watch what being inside her did to him.
There would be a ring, and a home, a family, and a lifetime of nights just like this one.
