When political activists denounce the rise in earned-income inequality, they are neglecting the fact that a significant portion of the phenomenon they decry has arisen from the individual efforts of women and their greater participation in the economy. Not surprisingly, increased equality of opportunity and the attendant expansion of effort to succeed often generates more earned-income inequality.
