“I think it’s awesome.” Archer smirks. “She’s hot. If you’re not gonna let her climb you, then mind if I text her?” I think my blood actually starts to boil under my skin. I like Archer and that’s the only reason I don’t tell him to fuck right the hell off. Or sign it, because it’s one of the few signs he taught us that I’ve perfected.
“Success,” he says, jaw tight and voice a little deeper than it was a minute ago.
“Hey, asshole. That’s my girlfriend you’re making a pass at, and trust me, you’d be so lucky.”
“I should kick his ass,” Felix grumbles, watching the guy disappear into the crowd with his beer. “No, you shouldn’t.” I finally peel my hand off of him. “He’s not worth getting kicked out.” “It would absolutely be worth it.”
“Anyone gives you any trouble, just tell them you’re my girlfriend.”
Speaking of, how’d things work out with the musician?”
“There’s a party at Phi Kappa Theta. Go with me.”
“I don’t usually take girls to frat houses on dates, but sure, something like that. A casual hang at a party with half the school.”
As he says the last word, I turn my attention back to the door. This time, the girl I’m waiting for steps through it. “You’re right. Fucking wow.”
“Dahlia, you look…wow.” He clears his throat. “I’ve forgotten all other adjectives.”
“You really look great,” he says. “I kind of feel like I swallowed my tongue.”
“You saw the video. Who else would she be hooking up with?”
“Actually, she is exactly my type, which is why I asked her to be my girlfriend earlier tonight.”
I drop Dahlia’s hand to get us both beer, but as soon as we’re set, I put my arm around her neck and toy with her hair. I’m not sure why. Because I want to reassure her? Because I want to touch her? Because I want to piss off Bethany? Probably all the above.
It’s not about Bethany at all when I pick her up and spin her around to celebrate three victories in a row. I’m just having a good time seeing her kick Brogan’s ass.
“Felix?” “Yeah, baby?”
How in the hell has no one kissed her? I’m considering asking her, or maybe just taking her perfect mouth right here.
“I don’t feel sorry for you,” he says, without missing a beat. “I feel sorry for all the guys that fucked it up.”
“Letting everyone know I’m out with my girl.”
He’s looking at Dahlia in a way I don’t like. To be fair, I don’t want him looking at her, period, but I know that’s some caveman bullshit she doesn’t need from the guy she’s only pretending to date.
“Walters mentioned it. He’s all, my girlfriend is so hot, and my girlfriend is the best at flip cup, and my girlfriend is a kick-ass golfer.” As he speaks, Brogan brings a hand to his chest and mimics Felix but in a high-pitched voice. I can’t help but chuckle. Brogan is this big guy, and his hair flops around and he looks absolutely ridiculous, but he doesn’t seem to have a care in the world about who sees or hears him. When I grow up, I want to be Brogan Six. “Shut the fuck up.” Felix tries to laugh it off, but his face is a little red. He glances at me and winks. “All true, though.” “We

I place a hand at her hip and because I’m greedy, glide my thumb along the band of her shorts and let it slip just under so that I’m touching bare skin. “I have a secret talent too.”
“I’m not the guy for you, but that doesn’t mean I don’t wish that I were.”
“Don’t settle for less, okay? You deserve that.”
She loves pushing my buttons. Little does she know, she pushes most of them without even trying. Everything about her just hits a little different.
“Your guy is on fire,” one of them says. My guy.
Looking up from the field and seeing her cheering me on in my jersey was almost as good as winning the game. Shy, beautiful Dahlia wearing my name and number across her back, and everyone knowing she’s mine—hell fucking yeah.
“You look gorgeous,” I reassure her. “Just, you know, even more gorgeous when people know you’re mine.”
His hand slides around my waist and he hooks his thumb through a loop on my denim shorts. “It was good to see you, man,” he says to the guy in front of him. “We’re gonna head in. My girl needs a fresh drink.”
“I didn’t like the way he was looking at you.” “He wasn’t looking at me at all.” “Oh, he definitely was. You were just too busy staring at me to notice.”
“Stop looking at me like that, hot stuff,” he warns in a low voice that sends another round of goosebumps popping up along my bare skin. “Like what?” I can’t drag my stare away from his mouth. “Fuck,” he mutters under his breath as he finally drops his head and brushes his lips over mine.
“Are you two gonna keep playing or make out?” Lucas asks. Without tearing his gaze from mine, Felix says, “Make out.”
“To be clear,” he says as he brings his mouth closer. “This isn’t part of the Felix Walter’s experience.” “No?” “Uh-uh. This is the Dahlia Brady effect. Totally different thing. You drive me completely fucking crazy.”
No one has ever looked better. Full stop.
“Stop looking at me like that, babe.” He pulls my tank and sweatshirt down to cover me but keeps running his hand along the curve of my waist. “Like what?” I taunt him a little. I can’t get over the rush it is having a simple look or touch get him all riled up. I made him hard. Me. “Like you want to climb me like a tree and lick me all over.”
“Next time, we’re staying at your place.”
When I’m out of ammunition, he lunges for me. He grabs me around the legs and tosses me over his shoulder. He smacks my butt as he stalks over to the door of his room. Once we’re there, he lets me slide down until my face hovers in front of his. I place a hand over my mouth. “I haven’t brushed my teeth.” “Morning breath won’t save you now.” “What about breakfast?” He presses me against the door. “They can’t break it down if we’re standing in front of it.”
Felix opens the passenger door for me. I pause before climbing in. “I’m coming?” “You thought I was gonna kick you to the curb this morning?” He arches a disbelieving brow. “Umm…” Kind of, yeah. Or at least drop me off at my house and go about whatever he had planned for the day. “Well, fuck. Even I’m not that big of an asshole.”
“Besides, I want to stare at your puffy lips a little longer. I love knowing they’re all swollen and red from me.” Proving his point, he steps closer, backing me into the side of the car and kissing me stupid until the others honk and yell out their windows for us to hurry up.
“Uh-huh.” Lucas snorts. “Because it sounded like you two were doing a whole lot of talking in there this morning.” My face flushes. Felix drops an open palm to my thigh.
“You have to come,” Stella adds. “Our parents will be so excited to meet you.” Felix doesn’t seem at all concerned that his sisters are inviting me to meet his parents. His hand remains steady on my thigh.
“Actually, I can’t anyway,” I say. “I just remembered I have a golf tournament and I think my dad is coming up to watch.” Felix looks to me. “A tournament at Valley?” “Yeah.” One side of his mouth lifts. “That’s cool. Can I come watch?” “No,” I say quickly. He scoffs. “Why not?” I laugh and the honest reply slides out before I can stop it, “Because you’re very distracting.”
“You said I couldn’t come to your tournament, but you said nothing about watching you practice.” His grin is wolfish, and my stomach does a little flip. “Yeah, well, it extends to practices.” “In that case, your coach called practice fifteen minutes ago, so technically, I’m just a guy hanging at the driving range watching some badass girl hit the fuck out of a golf ball. You gave me goosebumps a couple times.”
“Can I drive you home at least?” “I live down the street,” I say, fighting a smile. I can actually see the house from where we’re standing. Felix waves a hand toward my abandoned golf bag. “You’ve got all those heavy clubs.” He walks with me back to get my stuff. Taking my bag from me, he groans. “Fuck. They are heavy.” “Maybe you’re just weak, Walters,” I tease. With that, he hooks the bag over one shoulder and then scoops me up, carrying both me and the clubs across the range. “Oh my gosh, put me down. People are staring,” I whisper-hiss. “No can do, hot stuff.”
“Everything is fine. Don’t worry. She just got a little weak in the knees at the sight of me. Isn’t that sweet?”
“I can’t believe you did that. They are going to give me so much shit tomorrow.” “I guess I better make it worth it then.”
“Come on,” he says. “I’ll drop you at home.” I chance a glance in Harper’s direction as I move to climb inside. She gives me two thumbs up and flashes me the biggest smile. Felix gets behind the wheel, starts the car, and then leans over to brush his lips against mine again before he puts it in reverse. And I think, maybe I am the luckiest girl alive.
When we get to the front entrance of the dorm, I pull her off to the side and back her against the building. She giggles in surprise, seconds before my mouth descends and captures hers. I don’t know what this girl’s done to me. It’s only been a few days since I’ve kissed her, but it feels like an eternity.
We pull apart when a group of loud guys walks out of the dorm. They give us, or rather her, a long look, taking in her wet, puffy lips and bare legs. I clear my throat and send them a death glare.
“Well, I guess it’s a good thing you have me then.” “Why’s that?” “Because I’m always looking out for you. Whatever you need, hot stuff.”
