“You look gorgeous,” I reassure her. “Just, you know, even more gorgeous when people know you’re mine.”
“I’m not sure. I’ve never tested it. You’re the only person to wear it.” He scans me from head to toe. “We should get back out there. You can test out your luck with some flip cup.” I lift both brows as I smile back at him. “I was thinking more along the lines of it helping me get lucky.”
“Everybody wants you, hot stuff. Not sure how I feel about that.” “It must be the lucky sweatshirt. I think it’s working.” His hands slide under the bulky material. Cold fingers tease the bare skin along the band of my shorts. “It’s definitely working.”
“Are you two gonna keep playing or make out?” Lucas asks. Without tearing his gaze from mine, Felix says, “Make out.” My pulse races and my heart is hammering in my chest. “To be clear,” he says as he brings his mouth closer. “This isn’t part of the Felix Walter’s experience.” “No?” “Uh-uh. This is the Dahlia Brady effect. Totally different thing. You drive me completely fucking crazy.”
The party is still going strong outside, but we both stopped drinking some time ago. Her, because she didn’t want to ‘get so drunk she wouldn’t remember kissing me’ and me, because I couldn’t hold a beer and grab her ass with both hands at the same time.
“I said they’re perfect. I now have official confirmation.”
“A tournament at Valley?” “Yeah.” One side of his mouth lifts. “That’s cool. Can I come watch?” “No,” I say quickly. He scoffs. “Why not?” I laugh and the honest reply slides out before I can stop it, “Because you’re very distracting.”
don’t know, but whatever it is, I hope it ends with you riding him in the front seat of his car. He is straight-up obsessed with you, and I am so here for it.” “He is not obsessed with me.” “He’s looking at you like a man obsessed.”
“Fuck. They are heavy.” “Maybe you’re just weak, Walters,” I tease. With that, he hooks the bag over one shoulder and then scoops me up, carrying both me and the clubs across the range.
They watch with surprise and amusement. He raises his voice to speak to them. “Everything is fine. Don’t worry. She just got a little weak in the knees at the sight of me. Isn’t that sweet?” “Oh my gosh, Felix.” I hit him playfully in the chest.
“Well, I guess it’s a good thing you have me then.” “Why’s that?” “Because I’m always looking out for you. Whatever you need, hot stuff.”
Daisy says. “Jordan has been begging me for new spank bank photos.” “You send him nudes?” Vi’s mouth falls open in shock, and I choke on my wine. “No, well, okay, fine, I have, but I meant photos of me in all your amazing dresses. It really does something for him seeing me all done up. This one specifically.” She flounces the red skirt. “It’s because he’s imagining ripping it off you,” Vi says. “But don’t let him rip that one.” “I can’t even begin to tell you how jealous I am of all of you,” Jane says. “Maybe I should take some sexy photos of myself and spam my contact list.”
“I, uh, I bought condoms.” His hands still. Before I can lose my nerve, I add, “I’ve thought about it. I’m ready and I want it to be you.”
She wasn’t just the best fake girlfriend, she was the best girl I’ve hung out with, period.
“Actually, no, maybe I’m not. Dahlia is single.” He rubs his hands together and then laughs. There’s the asshole I know. I glower at him and he just grins back, smug as fuck. “Touch her and die, dickwad.”
Maybe I can do this. I can move on, kiss lots of boys, and forget about how much I miss my fake ex-boyfriend.
think I’m having a heart attack. My chest is tight and blood pounds in my ears. Twenty-two seems young for a heart attack, but I’m not a doctor.
“Dahlia?” “Yeah.” The word comes out in a pant. He doesn’t speak right away, and I look up to find a playful smirk on his face. “Just checking to see if you need my big dick.” As I laugh, he pushes inside me. All the air leaves my lungs. “Are you okay?” He stills. I nod and bite my lip. He studies my face, gauging the sincerity of my words. “I’m okay,” I say. “Really.” “Breathe.” His lips brush mine.
“I’m pretty sure this night is going to ruin me for casual sex. It’s not usually this good, right? I’ve sat through enough girl talk to hear terrible stories of hookups with guys who don’t know the meaning of foreplay and last all of fifteen seconds.”
“What?” I ask when he just keeps staring at me. “Be my girlfriend, hot stuff.” “What?” My hands still. “I want you to be my girlfriend. For real this time.” He sits up. “You’re right. Nothing about this feels casual. It never did. I want to be the guy taking you home, not the asshole sitting across the bar watching you with some other guy.”
You don’t need it but sending you all the good luck today. Knock ’em dead. “Felix?” Jane asks. “How’d you know?” “You’re smiling like you only smile for him.”
Eddie snaps. “That’s what it is. You’re in love. I knew something was different.”
“Well, crap. I think I’m in love with him.”
“Oh my god. That’s it.” His eyes widen and his face lights up. “You’re that girl from that show…Ivy. Ivy Greene. God, I loved that show. What was it called? You were so good. You still sing then?”
“Congrats on the game. I checked the score so many times, I had Eddie’s entire wardrobe team asking for updates.” “Oh, for the love of God!” Bethany screeches. I’m ready to lay into her, but Dahlia steps in front of me. “Do you mind? I’m trying to have a moment here.” I hear Brogan laugh next to me. “Yes, I mind,” Bethany spits. “This whole desperate chick thing you have going on is pathetic.”
“Oh, and Bethany?” Reluctantly, my ex turns back around. Her eyes are wild and angry, jaw tight. Dahlia takes a step closer. Damn she’s sexy standing up for herself and for me. I don’t think anyone has ever fought so hard for me. It’s straight fire. “I think the bad sex thing might be a you problem because he’s great in bed.”
“We could do the other thing I said in the video too.” His brow furrows like he’s thinking back to remember exactly what I said. “Lick every inch of your body.” His eyes darken. “Later. I need to be inside you.”
Eventually, he kisses my neck and says, “All done.” I run a hand along the back of my head, then swivel around to face him. “You braided my hair?” He grins. I get up off the bed and go over to the mirror. Not just a braid. A French braid. “How?” I ask. “Is this some sort of kink?” His body shakes with silent laughter. “Not that I’m aware of.”
“I can do a Dutch braid, too. And I think I remember how to do a fishtail braid, but it’s been a while so don’t hold me to that.”
“I have a better idea. Little halftime show for my hottie QB.” She giggles. “Are we going to get dirty on the back nine? Hit it into the rough? Choke down on the shaft? Get it into the hole?”
“I love you too.” I exhale audibly. “Of course, I do. How could I not?” The relief I feel makes me dizzy. “It’s my abs, right? Maybe my charm and wit. Or my magic fingers.”
“No darts.” I swear I played darts with one other guy once and the man has boycotted the game for life. “You won. I’m all yours. I think you can let it go.” “Never,” he says, but he’s smiling. “It wasn’t ever really a competition, you know? You own my heart.” “Right back at ya, hot stuff.” His eyes crinkle at the corner and his mouth twists into a playful smirk. “But I still fucking hate darts.”
“Then they’re both yours. Two rings for the number of lifetimes it’s going to take to show you how much I love you.”
