Lauren was always in a bad mood when they were with his friends, and he didn’t understand why.
Well, a persons friends is a reflection of themselves.
your friends are the parts of you she can't control,
the parts she can't reshape, refine, or in other words; manipulate to do her biddings and cower under her every whim.
with your friends, you are more true to yourself because they make your true self come out of hiding. Wake up from it's comma.
also, yiur friends have your back, they are there for you. Their job is to point out the things youare too bkind to notice.
she doesn't really like you, and around your friends, her grip on you is slipping.

None of it made sense. Charlie wasn’t like this with friends, much less with a relationship. Usually, he would be tired of Lauren in a day or two, and he would need to go home to recharge. The same sometimes applied to Lewis. Violet was the exception, and Charlie didn’t understand why.
“Does it matter?” “Yes.” “Why?” “Because I want them to think I’m worth their time.” “What’s the worst that could happen?” “They could leave,” she said, the words rushing out of her. She looked at her hands, which twisted in front of her. “Is this a new feeling?” He asked. “No,” she muttered. “I’ve always worried about it. Especially when you and I fought. We were always causing problems.”
