The women who complained about the imagery from old sitcoms, large bell dresses, coiffed hair, perfect makeup, sole domestic responsibility, were missing the point. In trying to make the women less, they gave them power. If all those women stopped, walked away, and disappeared, the perfect little world all those men lived in would crumble into lost homework, scraped knees, and conflict. What made those homes perfect were the efforts of women like her mother.
