The door swung back open, and she poked her head in. “Yeah?” “Record her laughing for me.”
“I know it is hard, but I learned that the ones we have lost are not the only people in our lives. A part of you will always be buried under the grief, but the rest of you belongs with those still here. Do not rob yourself of that joy.”
“It’s strange,” she murmured. “To have no memory of someone you love.” His breath caught in his throat. “How do you know you love me?” She brought her hand to her chest, pressing lightly. “Here. I know it as well as I know my name. I may not remember falling, but my heart remembers loving you.”
Her face fell slightly. What would Caius think? She ignored herself. He could fuck off if he didn’t like it.
