The last few months had been royally shit. Letting her hair down and trying out one of the many new lipsticks that are both too bright and too fun for work that she’d bought online on many a depressed Wednesday afternoon at the office but hadn’t had the chance to wear could be good for her.
She wriggles out of the bed and goes over to a bookcase full of battered paperbacks of children’s literature staples – Redwall, The Subtle Knife but none of the others, The Hobbit. A baby nerd, she thinks.
I’m interpreting this as Christopher leaving the subtle knife behind and just bringing the two good books in the trilogy into his adult life.
