“What are you doing?” she questioned in an urgent whisper. Her foggy brain was still piecing together who was carrying her. “Carrying you to our bed,” Ethan’s matter-of-fact baritone answered.
He coaxed her stiff arms to relax until she was on her elbows on top of him, their faces inches apart. “I want you,” he said. “You’ve made that clear.” “And you want me,” he said reaching up, gripping the back of her neck with a gentle hand. He brought her in for a kiss, which elicited a moan that proved him undeniably correct.
“What?” “You cheated on me,” she panted. “That’s why we’re in separate beds. Because you cheated on me.” “When?” “Pretty much throughout our entire marriage,”
His brain twitched as if a memory was trying to break through. He grabbed hold of it but it dissipated in his grasp, like water.
“This may be a secret wedding, but let’s at least try and make it believable, shall we? If you’re going to wear a wedding dress, let’s get a real one,” he said.
In fact, by the time I am ready, you’ll probably regain your memory.” “Do you still love me?” The question knocked
“You still with this guy?” “No. When I left to come and see you, he gave me an ultimatum.” “Fucking simp,” he spat.
fucking movie star was in my house today and all I could think about was how badly she was fucking up this thing we had going from earlier. I want you and it’s like muscle memory. I think my brain is trying to get me to remember something.”
She blew a breath out of her cheeks, shaking her head. “I’ve got to get out of here.” “None of what is real?” Harmony heard Ethan’s voice behind her.
“Okay,” he said, careful to keep his tone devoid of judgment. “Well, if there’s no boyfriend to go back to now then… that means there’s nothing keeping you from coming home and… staying home.”
“She also suffered his infidelity. His vices. Bore his children. And she doesn’t raise her voice,” Harmony countered. His gorgeous profile turned to hers, grinning. “Does my mother know you’re Team Shannon?” “No, because I’m not and never tell her that I am. Not even as a joke.”
He was now inundated with a scent that was usually a subtle overtone when she walked by— A skating rink.
should go, he thought. He was… not himself. Pretending. Not to want her. He had to win…
Just then a tallish black woman in her 20‘s came barging through the door in snug jeans and a black leather jacket with a colorful shirt underneath, her hair in a loose bundle of uniform, very obedient coils.
She had the beauty of youth and the beauty of, well, beauty. Her eyes were sultry and dramatic, her manner unaffected but polite. The modern version of a blaxploitation actress. Like she could make a man feel like a million dollars or she could karate chop the shit out of him.
“there is a caveat. Ethan, if you should decide to contest for your portion of my estate, I have included the condition that Harmony Rhodes agrees to take you as her husband.
She shivered and her eyes averted impulsively to anything else. But when she turned to go, he maintained his grip on her finger. She looked back to see his eyes squarely on her. The lawyer unsuccessfully fought off an eye roll.
She technically didn’t have to guess if he’d regained his memories. The very fact that he was there meant that he was back to showing up unannounced, Batman-style.
I had a feeling your conscience might be eating you alive, but—” “My conscience is just fine.” “But still. I never expected you to do what you did.” “What did I do?” “You left.”
“Well, it’s not how I am, okay? It got out of hand, I know that. It was only supposed to be a few days. Your brain was taking its sweet fucking time.” “And so your solution was to fuck my brains out?”
“What I don’t understand is, if you could just railroad me in court this entire time, why didn’t you?” “Because believe it or not, Dad’s last wishes did mean something to me. You took care of him. He wanted to do something generous for you, misguided as it was.”
“And suddenly it all becomes clear,” Danny surmised. “Does it?” Ethan wondered. “Of course. The old man forced you two to get married or else he was cutting you out of the will.” Harmony’s jaw dropped. Ethan’s neck slowly jutted forward in disbelief. “It happens more often than you think.”
just want to go home.” Close enough. He had to admit revenge fuck weekend wasn’t going to be the safest place to open up to him.
