She wore glasses even though she didn’t need them. She said they made her feel better about herself. Smarter, somehow.

She told me there was a rumor of a place, far, far to the west, where wolves and humans lived together in harmony. They loved each other, she whispered, because that’s what pack was supposed to do.
“What do we say about smelling other people without their permission?” He scowled. “Not to do it.”

You can’t Alpha your way through a Windows update.”
“Alpha, I mean no disrespect, but can you get to the fucking point? Because I’m getting real tired of your shit.”
Mark, would you please get your fucking dog junk out of my face?”
“Did you just make a sex joke? Oh my god, I’m going to tell everyone.”
The stories I could tell you would make your toes curl. Let’s just say I’m not sending him a card for Father’s Day this year.
“Tanner, would you get off of me?” “I’m trying, but your foot is in my asshole!”
“Hey. My mom just fucked your shit up. That’s hysterical.”
“Well, shit,” Tanner said. “How many times do we gotta fix the goddamn windows here?”
I tend to grow on people, though. Like a fungus. Give it time. You’ll love me soon enough.
“I’m older than you,” Kelly retorted. “I changed your diaper when you shit yourself. You may be my Alpha, but I’ve wiped your ass, Joe.”
I’ve seen Carter’s dick more times than I care to think about.” He frowned. “I really regret saying that out loud.”
“Knock it off, Ox!” “No!” Ox called back.
I think part of being an Alpha is learning to be an enigmatic dick.”
I’m a mother. I’ve raised three boys. You’ll lose.”
It struck me then just how much I wanted this. It was sudden and fierce. I wanted this. Here. With them. In this place so very far from all I thought I knew.
But we start again. Because even if everything is burnt to a crisp, we can always try again and again.
“You can shift into a wolf the size of a small horse, and you regret not being able to get drunk?”
“Alpha,” I whispered to him. He brushed a lock of my hair off my forehead. “Little wolf.”
No matter what happens, no matter how long it takes, don’t ever think you won’t get to where you need to be. And we’ll be right there, every step of the way. Okay?”
“You made heart eyes at Mark,” Tanner accused. “For years.” “I was trying to murder him with the power of my mind,” Gordo retorted.
“Don’t take advice from Gordo. You’ll end up surly all the time until you’re transformed by the power of love.”
“I knew. The moment I saw you standing on the porch when we came back from hunting Richard Collins. I knew.” “Knew what?” “That you were my mate.”

I wanted a pack who loved me. Who trusted me. Who never wanted to let me go. Who missed me when I was gone. Who thought about me and smiled. I wanted a home.
I didn’t remember him, but I wished I did, because I thought maybe he could be everything. He was a summer filled with green, like so much relief.
“First steps, Robbie. It’s all about the first steps.
“And I know you’re still you, Robbie. I know it with everything I have, because that’s not your wolf. It’s Kelly’s.”

You are a survivor, Robbie. And not even magic can take that away from you.”
He was watching me with human eyes, and I thought I could love him. I saw how easy it could be. I didn’t, not yet, but oh, I wanted to.
“There was something … I don’t know. Endless. About you and me.”
“I wish I wasn’t so used to being naked in front of a lot of people like I am now.”
“What the fuck,” Carter said faintly.
Joe! Joe! Do I have to let your brother piss on me or what?” “What the fuck are you talking about?” Joe shouted, sounding outraged.
I wondered if anyone had ever told Joe he was subtle. If they had, they were lying.
Original Flavor Robbie hated having long hair. Robbie 2.0 looks like a hipster douche.
Sure, I mean, I have to turn into a slobbering giant every time there’s a full moon, and I accidentally hunted a deer and was eating it raw before I realized what I was doing, but I can punch through walls now, so it’s pretty much a fair trade-off.”
“Car alarms,” Tanner mumbled. “The worst thing that’s ever happened to anyone ever. Gordo accidentally set one off at the garage.” Chris snickered. “Tanner half-shifted and was barking at it.”
“So. We forgive you for the whole rawr-I’m-going-to-maul-you thing. And in return, you can forgive us for taking so long to rescue you like the damsel in distress you are.”
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Rico growled. “You’ve only been a werewolf for a year. Is it eating your goddamn brain? You seriously can’t be this stupid.”
but fortunately my drive to stay alive overrode my mouth.
