The revelation that Olivia Harding has always been and will always be one thing above anything else. Mine.

“Kylie, let me be clear. I love you and I love that you want to protect me but one, I’m a grown-ass man so I don’t need you to defend me and two, I’m not gonna let you disrespect her so let that be your last fuck her.”

This is why I haven’t kissed a single man since the last time Kai’s lips touched mine.

“Because I want you to understand that if you really want something, you have to be willing to work for it. To give it your blood, sweat, and tears.”

In other words, she wanted a buffer between us for tonight. Clever girl. It won’t work, though, because I don’t give a fuck if Shane’s there or not. I would bend her ass over the kitchen table and let Shane watch, that’s how badly I want her, so she can fuck around and find out if she wants to.

I’ve spent the last thirteen years of my life wondering about the woman you turned out to be, missing the sound of your laugh and the peace that settles over me whenever you’re around, so if you think I’m going to spend the time I have with you with my friends who I see every fucking day, you’ve forgotten who I am. You are my priority. That will never change.”

In my case, however, I made a choice to keep my baby and raise them alongside Kai, but that choice was taken from me, and that’s the part of me that never healed. It is a loss.

“I want you to understand what you’re signing up for if you connect your lips with mine. My self-control is a fraying thread, and every time you touch me in a way that’s more than friendly or show me a version of you that wants this as much as I do, it unravels a little more. I’m a strong man but I am not invincible, so if you do this, the thread officially snaps. All fucking bets are off.”

“You’re funny. No, love, what happens next is I’m going to destroy you. I’ve craved you for years, and you’ve denied me for too long, so I’m not going easy on you. I’m going to completely wreck your body until only I can piece you back together.”

I look down at my sleeping beauty—clad in nothing but a tank top, boy shorts, and a purple bonnet—and consider my next move. Olivia may have given in to her sexual needs last night, but she’s still tight-lipped about our past and more importantly how we move forward. I’m happy to break her back in any way she wants but I want more. I want to wake up to her in my arms every day. I want my ring on her finger, my name on her jersey. I want to be by her side as she continues taking the world by storm. I want to share our story with our grandkids. I want to love her completely, in all her forms, for the rest of our lives. I just need her to want that too.

When my gaze finds its way to the top of the jersey, I realize the difference. It says Morris instead of Harding. “Aww, you had a jersey customized?” “I was hoping it might be the name on your jersey soon.” I beam at him but then his words register. Wait, what? “Told you she wouldn’t get it,” Kylie laughs. “Are you…?” He pulls out a box and opens it to reveal a gorgeous pear-shaped engagement ring with a chocolate diamond that matches my eyes. “I am. What do you say, Olivia? You wanna make my life complete and marry me?” The family waits with bated breath for my answer, as if there was a chance I’d say no. My story with Kai may have taken a long detour, but the ending was written in the stars a long time ago. “Yes, sir.”
