I almost forget who I am and why I’m here in Freedom Valley in the first place.

I began to hide my interest in gardening, and I never planted anything in my old home. My old life.

Bradley did a great job to overwhelm me with attention and flood me with fake affection in the beginning.

Ty is definitely good with those hands—holding me on the dance floor, pulling me in for kisses that make me wonder what else they can do.

The man really made me freaking tea to hang out by the fire. He’s literally perfect.

“What are you thinking?” He rests his arms on his legs, looking over at me. I cock my head as I gaze at him, and I decide to be honest. “You’re so ridiculously good looking, it should be illegal. And the way you can read me like a book is kind of scary.”

We got married right after I turned twenty-one, and on our wedding night, it all changed. The ink was barely dry on our marriage certificate before he began to show me who he really was. I thought it would get better, but it never did.

His hand takes mine and he squeezes it gently. Somehow the small gesture makes me feel safe, so I take a deep breath and I share my story.

He has repeatedly threatened to kill both of us. I always felt like him saying it was halfway to doing it, so we had to get out.

“You seem a lot happier,” Allie agrees. “She’s right. You are loved. Period. Logan’s a millionaire. What do you think I could have offered him as an unemployed single mom? I offered him a family and love. Us. He needed us. Maybe Ty needs you and Kase as much as you need him.”

“But happiness isn’t everything.” “It is everything,” Beth says. “Because life is short, and it can be gone in the blink of an eye. So treasure every moment and make the most of everything you have.”

I rub Mellie’s back and hold her to my chest until her breathing slows down.

“You’re going to make a great dad someday.” I kiss her neck and whisper in her ear, “So make me one.”

It’s funny how we can fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time and then you can’t imagine living without them, no matter what their imperfections are or what happens.

“Make me a husband and father, Mel. Please.” He tilts his head and looks at me adoringly. “Yes,” I whisper. “You’re stuck with us forever.” “There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”
