Then there are her eyes. She isn’t sure Kari even realizes it, with each blink they flip. They swell into an elongated alien blanket of hazel, honeycombed in oblong black pupils. Then as if nothing had changed, a single blink shrinks the colorful tapestry, restoring the whites to her eyes, with only a single oily black orb at the center of a hazel ring.
With silence consuming the room, Ghini notices the sun’s glare shimmering on thin wisps of peach fuzz peppering Bernie's face.
“Listen well Ghini. Belief, faith, and trust . . . all three are things that’re incredibly different, but get mixed up. You can choose to believe in something like God or monsters. You can have faith that God looks out for you, and that locking yer door keeps ya safe from the monsters. “Trust is different. You trust the clergy to guide your faith, not because they have to, but because they want to. You trust that the silver bullet does the trick against the monster, not because you have to, but because that’s how others tell you they stopped it before you.
Apologize as soon as ya can, cuz you never want someone to leave this world not knowing two things. That you love them, and you sorry if you hurt them.
