“Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.” —Robert Burns, My Heart’s in The Highlands
“Callie is the luckiest wee girl in the world,” Walker uttered gruffly, “to have a mum like you. You’re a warrior, Sloane. Never doubt it.”
At that moment, he reminded me of that Scottish flower—the thistle. There were all these prickles on the stem and leaves before you could get to the pretty flower. That was Walker. You had to look beyond his gruffness to see he was a caring, good man.
“To long breaks in the Scottish Highlands.”
“I’ve never been in a relationship, Sloane. I don’t know if I know how to be in one. But if it’s enough for you to know I want to try, then stay with me.”
“You’re mine,” he growled as his hips slammed against mine. “I’m yours and you’re mine. Say it, Sloane. You’re mine.”
“Will you be okay today?” His expression softened. “Do you love me?” A shy smile prodded my lips. “Yes.” “Then I’m more than okay.”
“Let’s face it, Walker’s like a Mento. Hard on the outside but soft on the inside.
“My love, my Mento!”
