Art narrowed his eyes on me. “I’m not trying to be an ass, but I don’t know what you want me to do with this information, Billy. It’s not even 8:30 a.m., I’m babysitting a cat from hell, and Charlie is a solid employee who doesn’t seem to have done anything wrong.”
Do you need to go home for anything? Also, where do you live?” Billy asked. “Oh…” I trailed off, unsure how to answer that. “Well, I guess you might say I have a roommate. But they don’t know I live with them.”
There were many mornings I had been drinking carton milk when Hunter had made another surprised yelp after finding a thousand dollars under his pillow. At one point, he had told a friend there was a tooth fairy in the house, but they stole his things and gave him cash. I’d never known fairies to give humans money. They just seemed to trap them and steal their souls, but what did I know?
We go to work, and we’re supposed to be able to clock out and go home, not worry about evil HR agents and corporate spies.”
Anne let out a sigh of disappointment, and I noticed the snakes that made up her hair started to move. They fell out of their bun, but I knew the human couldn’t make that out. I took a small step back. I had been alive long enough to know not to get in the way of Medusa’s granddaughter. Anne was a sweetheart, but she’d also had a few ‘accidents’ with a couple of monstrous ex-employees. I wasn’t looking to find an early grave.
