There was so much work that needed to be done on my end. I refused to sit at anyone’s table empty-handed. I’d done that before and that’s how I’d gotten abused financially for nearly a decade. That wouldn’t happen to me again. Couldn’t. If I ever decided to walk away from whatever it was that Luca and I built, I didn’t want to walk away empty-handed, nor did I want to end up in his sister’s spare bedroom.
