Under the heading ‘Magic and Witchcraft’ a manuscript was labelled ‘Revelations to One Who Could Not Read a Letter, 1373’.15 She had found what she was looking for – the earliest surviving copy of Julian of Norwich’s Revelations of Divine Love. Over the course of one month Grace transcribed the full text and translated it from medieval to modern English. She then returned to Edinburgh and managed to persuade the publisher Methuen to print the first complete printed text of Julian’s work in 1901.
