Her intention was to develop a system of education which would produce learned clerics who could lead the church in Poland and influence the conversion of her husband’s people in Lithuania. It is one of the oldest universities in the world and has produced scholars like Copernicus and Pope John Paul II. However, the university was not named after Jadwiga.
