The simple fact that I wrote this book using nothing but my own memories, my

own conscience, and my own perspective—unencumbered by censorship or threats of legal repercussions—is a testament to the miracle of American life.

If any word or action could cause someone else discomfort, and if discomfort was grounds for possible disciplinary action, how could I anticipate who would be upset by what, not knowing who anyone was or what they thought?
