“The truth is, ordinary humans are capable of doing extraordinary things every single day without living extraordinary, extra lives. It’s the art, the creativity that sets them apart, not what they fucking eat for breakfast or who they’re fucking. Let them have their eggs in peace.”
“I want you to remember this moment. Right here, right now, just you and me in a fucking SUV, taking a drive to nowhere.” He looks at me pointedly. “Promise me you’ll remember this.”
“You just fucking fell out of the sky, didn’t you?”
Easton Crowne is not some budding star. He’s a supernova. He’s undoubtedly a prodigy—a genius disguised in a beautiful, but highly breakable—human package. At any time in the future, if he so desires, he will become a world-renowned star.
I want to cling to his star as it burns the brightest—if only to be with him for a little longer. If what Easton said is true, and we live in echoes of defining moments, I want to remain in this one for as long as I possibly can.
What appears to be bold black feather tips peak along the side of his neck.
hate so much that Easton Crowne is the most beautiful secret I’ll ever have and will forever be the one I’m forced to keep.
She may be a vulture too, for picking me to the bone and consuming my waking thoughts.
“Maybe you should fucking answer it this time, ’cause from where I’m standing, it looks like you want to.”
“There you are,” he whispers.
“Five hours, six tops, depending on traffic, and I’m so fucking pissed at you right now,” he repeats, his eyes flaring, “so expect a fight.”
She’s everything I remembered but somehow even more beautiful, more alluring. Simply put, she’s just fucking more.
I gape at him as he draws closer. “I’ve been bashing myself against you painfully for the last forty-eight hours, fighting like hell to get past your barricade—back to you.” He slaps his chest. “I’ve given you more than I have most after a lifetime of fucking knowing them. What the hell do I have to fucking do?”
“Intelligent men don’t let life-changing women pass them by without trying to grasp onto them with both hands. I don’t need endless months to figure out you’re that woman for me. I’m not most men, Natalie. I know exactly what I don’t want, and it’s everything outside of that door. What I do want is standing in front of me, and the idea of letting her walk away from me a second time is fucking eating me alive.”
“This is me fighting dirty for us both, so please just admit it so I can give you the best parts of me, because I want every fucking part of you.”
He tilts his head. “I believe in the soul,” his response thoughtful. “I’ve heard too many bleed and crack through my speakers not to, so it’s only natural I believe that a higher power created them. But if there’s a religion I subscribe to—” “It’s music,” I finish for him, and he dips his chin as he pinches the cross between his fingers.
