Easton Crowne is not some budding star. He’s a supernova.
“I think reading those emails affected you this way because you might be envious. Maybe you crave a connection, a love like my parents have, like our parents had together, maybe something more than the relationship you’ve idolized your whole life.”
“I’m also thinking you’ve never been properly kissed, fucked, or loved and that you caught a glimpse of something you want for yourself.”
Using our clasped hands, he jerks me flush to him, his breath hitting my ear a second before his heated declaration. “If you weren’t so determined to keep me out of your bed, I’d be fucking the breath out of you right now, Natalie.”
“Don’t you write to music?” “No, not really. I mean, it’s not a habit I have.” “You should. It enhances everything.” She lifts a skeptical brow. “I love a good song as much as the next gal, but everything?” “Everything,” I insist.
Kissing her was heaven, but fucking her before she flees from her self-confessed biggest mistake would be a hell I don’t want to sign up for.
“I’m good, for now, being your dirty little secret, even if you’re refusing to be mine.”
“This is me fighting dirty for us both, so please just admit it so I can give you the best parts of me, because I want every fucking part of you.”
“You’re a pain in the ass,” I call after his retreating back, testing the waters. Dad turns back to me, his expression a mix of amusement and adoration. “And you’re the light of my life.” He retreats then, walking through the pit towards his office as a tidal wave of guilt washes over me.
He continues to sing of my effect on him as his voice caresses my entire being, covering me head to heel in goosebumps while searing itself permanently into my heart. With every fluid stroke of his tongue—his weapon far too lethal for any sort of armor—the needle drives in deep, infusing me with a euphoric, indescribable high.
“Baby, you have no idea how good it feels to know that you love me the same way I love you.” “And how do we love each other?” “Wholly, unconditionally, and definitively.”
“Every song has a memory; every song has the ability to make or break your heart, shut down the heart, and open the eyes. But I’m afraid if you look at a thing long enough; it loses all of its meaning. And your own life while it’s happening to you never has any atmosphere until it’s a memory.” Andy Warhol
Sometimes, love, no matter how real it feels and is, isn’t always the right love, and you don’t figure that part out until you’ve lost it and put some time between your feelings and reality.
“Don’t ever hide from me. We’re as close as two people could ever be.”
