Why is commitment so scary? Because when we commit, we’re moving from the Known to the Unknown.
we’re proposing a mindset that is designed to outfox Fear of the Unknown. It says: Don’t try to overcome your fear. Fear cannot be overcome. Instead simply move your body into the physical space you fear . . . and see what happens.
The positive face of commitment is self-empowerment.The very act of putting our ass where our heart wants to be makes a profound impression, not just on those we wish to work with or be mentored by, but on ourselves.
the universe responds to the hero or heroine who takes action and commits. It responds positively.
She has, by an act of will and love and daring, stepped out of the role of the passive and the self-paralyzed and into the role of the active protagonist, the hero.
When you and I put our ass where our heart wants to be, the universe responds. We change. We see ourselves differently. But others, sometimes those we are not aware of (and whom we have no idea are aware of us), see us differently too. They may come to our aid in ways we could never have predicted and by some word or act of kindness change everything.
Books are self-organizing too. So are albums, entrepreneurial ventures, and statues of David. The process unfolds infallibly. Our symphony-in-the-works evolves into four movements, our screenplay orders itself into three acts. If we just keep plugging away at it, the Law of Self-Ordering comes to our aid. Work—day-in, day-out exertion and concentration—produces progress and order. That’s a law of the universe.
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way.
Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.”
When you and I put our ass where our heart wants to be, we do it for keeps. We’re in it to the end of the line.
