Jasper’s eyes crinkled at the sides, like he thought I was funny. Not laugh-out-loud funny, obviously, but amusing funny. Was I funny? I thought I was funny.
“I like perfect,” I murmured. “I like imperfect too. I like wild and reckless moments that you never forget.”
A cuddler. Of course I’d marry a woman who cuddled. I loathed cuddling.
It was just . . . her. She had effervescence. Energy. A spark that radiated from those pretty eyes. My wife.
Jasper was . . . mine. He wasn’t mine but he was mine. Sort of.
That tender heart was as beautiful as the starry night sky outside.
That rugged voice, his rasp, always made my breath catch. He might not be a man of many words, but when he used them, I listened.
A strong arm wrapped around my shoulders, stopping another lame apology. Jasper hauled me backward, flush against his chest. “That’s enough.” Griffin’s gaze leveled on Jasper. “This is a private conversation.” “You’re yelling at my wife.”
The thunder to his lightning. We were a storm. Two souls lost in the pouring rain.
Apparently, I’d gotten used to the cuddling. Without her, I hadn’t been able to sleep.
Then she’d come home and well . . . I’d missed her. I wasn’t supposed to miss her.
Eloise wanted to know me better than anyone. Now she did.
That smile of hers was brighter than any light bulb. Any star. She beamed, entirely in her element.
Eloise was my wife. There wasn’t a damn thing fake about this marriage. Not anymore.
If I had to choose between the view from our balcony or Jasper’s embrace, I’d choose the latter every day and twice on Sundays.
She was breathtaking. The most beautiful woman in the room—in any room.
Fierce loyalty. A precious heart. My Eloise.
“You’re so handsome when you smile.” I traced my finger across his bottom lip. “I like it when you smile.” “I like it when you smile too.”
“Watch it,” Jasper rumbled. “That’s my wife.”
This woman. She really didn’t understand, did she? This imaginary lock to my heart? I didn’t have the key. I’d handed it to her weeks ago.
For Jasper Vale, I’d wait until the end of my days.
