“I don’t know. You’re the one who used to live here. What’s something spontaneous to do in Vegas?” A man walking by answered for Jasper. “Get married.” I scoffed. “We can’t get married.” “Why not?” the guy asked, still walking, his arms raised. “Yeah,” Jasper said. “Why not?”
A cuddler. Of course I’d marry a woman who cuddled. I loathed cuddling.
“Don’t run away from me. Don’t pretend that you don’t know what it feels like when I’m fucking you.”
A strong arm wrapped around my shoulders, stopping another lame apology. Jasper hauled me backward, flush against his chest. “That’s enough.” Griffin’s gaze leveled on Jasper. “This is a private conversation.”
“You’re yelling at my wife.”
Instead of climbing the stairs, I found a blanket and pillow. And fell asleep on the couch.
Eloise and I were as fucked as whatever had been in my oven.

“That flutter is mine. Only mine.”
“Promise me, Eloise. Don’t give it to anyone else.”

While he was talking, a bird hit one of the front windows. He went out to get it and even though it wasn’t dead he brought it inside anyway. When it tried to fly away, he broke its neck.
“I love you.”
Jasper’s eyes popped open. A myriad of emotions flew through those dark irises. Happiness. Hesitation. Regret. He wasn’t ready to say it back. If the only person he’d said I love you to had been Samantha, then I didn’t blame him for being scared.
