In 2020, we learned about Ghostwriter, a collective—probably Russian in origin—that breached the content management systems of several Eastern European news sites and posted fake stories. This is a conventional hack of computer systems connected to the Internet, combined with a trust hack: the reputation for legitimacy of those news sites.
