Over the decades, hedge funds have taken advantage of one legal loophole after another. Sometimes the loopholes are closed after their discoverer makes a lot of money. Sometimes the rules are changed to legitimize the hack. Most of the time they are just used, and eventually accepted as normal. The people who run hedge funds aren’t necessarily smarter than everyone else.
