Reminders of Him

There was before you and there was during you. For some reason, I never thought there would be an after you.

Everyone was #TeamScotty, like we were never even on the same team.

“I’m sorry you lost him.” I can’t hold back the tears after that. It’s the first time anyone has ever acknowledged that I lost Scotty that night too.

I lift my hand and touch his cheek. “I would have fallen for you even if you didn’t love Diem.” His expression shifts, and then he kisses the inside of my palm. “I fell for you because of how much you do.”

Maybe the best way to cope with the loss of the people we love is to find them in as many places and things as we possibly can.
