Confidence is sexy as fuck, in case you’ve forgotten or you’re randomly reading book two without having read book one, in which case there’s something wrong with you and you need to go to the hospital immediately. You can tell them I sent you. It’ll be fine.

“Home.” I will never not love the sound of that word out of his mouth. The no-longer-homeless mute boy loves knowing he has a place he belongs.

He startles and screams and jumps up before freezing at the sight of the massacre. Truly, I feel a little bit sorry for him—it’s hard when it’s your first blood bath.

Bellamy gives me the evil eye and jerks his head toward Edovard, telling me in plain Mutese that Edovard is still my problem. Look, if the verbal are allowed to combine words to create new languages like Franspanol and Spanglish, I’m allowed to name my main form of communication too. We are now calling it Mutese. Wait. Mutish. No. Mutiny. *laughing while crying emoji* We’ll stick to Mutese.

Me: So, Edovard. How long are you planning on hanging out with us? Edovard moves his lips while silently reading, which I find adorable, if I’m honest, but also makes me wonder if he has a learning challenge like dyslexia or something, in which case we need to accommodate him, because we’re murderers, not assholes.

The rest of the journey back up is done in silence. I almost give up halfway, but the need to get Bellamy home spurs me onward. Ugh, living with Fox has spoiled me; I should be able to walk up seven floors without needing a break. Am I going to start stair-stepping? No. I’ll just avoid buildings that don’t come with working elevators, thank you very much.
