You, Rosemary Collins, are the last piece of the puzzle.” He paused, stepping closer as the crowd enveloped us. “Together, we could be villains.”
“I’ve seen how they treat you, how they cast you aside. People with parents like that only crave their love more,” he said. “So, yes, you care about them, and would do anything to please them. Especially something like saving their lives.” I knew they loved me in their own way.
This man could both be so normal and yet so lethal.
“I never thought I’d meet someone else who does that. Though to be fair, anyone I could ask is dead before I get the chance to.”
“Yes. Now do you promise you won’t try to stab me again?” His grip loosened. “It would be unfortunate to work with two people who tried to kill me.”
“And how long do you plan to stick around?”
“How long do you want me to stay?”
“You warm enough?”
“How could anyone not love you?”
“We should start a crappy parent club.”
But this was my Ironfall.
Heat rose in my cheeks, and time seemed to stop.
If I met his gaze much longer my knees might go weak,

The world wouldn’t fear someone born to do good, but they’d fear someone with deception in his veins.
My head tilted to the side. And his lips found mine. My eyes slipped closed.
It’s not real. He wouldn’t go falling in love, especially not with me. But the way he opened up to me, the way he looked at me, the way he was kissing me, seemed like so much more to him.
“You think you’re so cute, don’t you?”
“You know I am.”
