“Friday?” “That’s my hookup night.” “Meet at eight at Killer Brew.” My smile is getting bigger by the second. “You gonna bring me flowers?” “If you play your cards right, I’ll even pay.”
this is the kind of touch that I’ve craved for years without realizing it. Not the same as hungry groping, but deeper. The kind of touch that holds respect, need, and the aim to make the person you’re with feel incredible.
What Magic Mike shit is this?
He’s their quiet, and I’m their chaos. My grin widens as I think of us like that. Two parts working together.
“Well, I’ve been getting to know this guy, who I really like, and we’ve been taking it slow.” I meet his eyes. “And maybe I wanted to hit the accelerator.” “Mm, talk cars to me, baby.” “You get my engine going.”
That’s one of the things I admire about him. How he jumps in headfirst. He’s the calming breath you take before a deep dive, the first gulp of water after a long run, the low rumble of a V8 engine right before it accelerates. Everything about him has set up camp in my chest and lit a warm fire that refuses to go out.
“This isn’t a proposal because I don’t think I want one of those, and I have no idea if you ever would again either, but this is me saying you’re it for me. I’m never changing my mind about you. I want to move in together and discover each other’s bad habits. I want you to burn dinner and for me to be too messy for your liking. I want to argue and disagree, but once that’s over, I want us to be stronger for it. Because nothing can change how I feel about you, and I want to work to make you mine for the rest of our lives.”
I always thought I’d spend my life alone. I was fine with knowing that’s what was on the cards for me. You blew that whole goddamn plan up in my face.” “I did it with a smile too.” “And one badass lap dance.” I cuddle into his large chest. “Here’s to the newest version of ourselves.” “And to all those versions who came before.”
