Zacchaeus is the one who came up with the idea of returning four times the amount of money he had taken illegally.9 Jesus didn’t tell him to do it. Being with Jesus, transformed into his true identity, Zacchaeus did what his true identity knew to do. He returned what he had stolen and began to live generously.
